Still following the post above on February the first i´m glad to see a recent paper on Nature calling for a patent reprieve for Covid vaccines https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-00863-w
However, the article starts by saying that "The world needs around 11 billion doses of coronavirus vaccine to immunize 70% of the world’s population" but that forecast forgets the content of another article also published on Nature that brings bad news on herd immunity:
“Herd immunity is only relevant if we have a transmission-blocking vaccine. If we don’t, then the only way to get herd immunity in the population is to give everyone the vaccine...” https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-00728-2
