Engineering education and "fachidiot"



the recent paper in the link above published in the journal Futures shows how little engineering courses in Portuguese Universities worries on ethical issues: “The percentage of them with at least one mandatory curricular unit fully dedicated to ethical education is only 7.6%”.This is especially bizarre because this issue is especially important in the context of climate change which raises many questions with ethical dimensions rooted in the human condition. Almost five years ago i cited a former Rector of a Polish university, Wojciech Zielinski; who wrote about this issue saying that “the traditional narrow technical formation produces graduates that are, using the German language expression “fachidiot”
