Recent research shows that razor blades have low durability because "the roughness of the blade’s edge made it vulnerable to splitting. Steel, although hard overall, varies in hardness throughout its microstructure. When the hair pushed on a softer region bordered by a harder region, the stress on this boundary fractured the blade".
Of course the multibillion razor industry will not like research that could help to produce blades with higher durability because that will damage its multi-billion business. But what if the razor industry already knew that and they did nothing to solve the problem or worse what if they design the blades for low durability in the very same way that the tech industry prefers short lifespans no to damage future sales ?
