Above link to a recent article in The Economist that reports on several cases of shareholders who have brought pension funds and companies to court, due to the financial risks of climate change. In a case that took place in a European court, an environmental law charity bought shares in an energy company and when that company tried to build a coal-fired power plant the association went to court, claiming that this investment would be a financial risk in the context of decarbonization and the court ruled in his favour, which led to the abandonment of the plant's construction. Who could ever imagine that litigation could be so effective in saving the Planet! However, its hard to believe that it can avoid the "inevitable near term social collapse due to climate change" that Professor Bendell wrote about.
